Woody’s Bad Luck Continues: Dog Rescued From Valencia Floods Abandoned Again

Once a survivor of the catastrophic floods in Valencia, Woody seemed to have found his happy ending with a new family. But the young dog has now been abandoned once more, left confused and alone, waiting for someone truly committed to giving him a forever home.

Woody, Dog Rescued from Valencia Floods, Abandoned Again

From Flood Survivor to Rescue

Woody’s story began during the devastating dana (flood storm) that struck Valencia in October 2024. Volunteers from Animales DANA Valencia discovered him lost and terrified among vineyards. Too scared to leave his makeshift shelter, Woody resisted human contact for weeks before he was finally rescued.

The ordeal had left deep scars. Physically, his paw pads were shredded from days of wandering, and he was suffering from anemia. Emotionally, he was paralyzed by fear, often retreating to a corner and refusing to move.

A Brief Taste of Family Life

After months of recovery, Woody’s story took a positive turn. In February 2025, he was adopted, and rescuers hoped he had finally found stability. But in October, the association announced heartbreaking news: Woody had been returned.

According to his adopters, the issue was “poor coexistence” between Woody and the household’s baby. Yet volunteers pointed out that the child had already been part of the family at the time of adoption—making the excuse hard to accept.

Back to the Shelter

Now, Woody has gone from the streets, to a kennel, to a family home—and back again to an empty shelter. Volunteers say he is “alone and not understanding anything,” trapped in a warehouse with no space left for him.

Despite the trauma, rescuers emphasize that Woody is a gentle and noble dog. At only a year and a half old, he gets along with other dogs, does not require a potentially dangerous dog license (PPP), and could adapt to living with cats if introduced gradually with patience.

A Second Chance Needed

Rescuers fear Woody will regress emotionally if he stays confined too long. Their hope is that he can move directly into an adoptive home, or at least find a foster family to bridge the gap.

Woody is currently in Valencia, but he can travel to other regions of Spain if it means finally finding a family who will truly care for him.
