Tied to Train Tracks: 14-Year-Old Dog Brutally Killed in Italy in ‘Vile Crime’
In Sicily, a helpless senior dog named Timida was tied to a railway and killed by an oncoming train. The barbaric act, allegedly ordered by a local attorney, has sparked outrage across Italy. Animal rights groups are demanding justice—and harsher punishment under Italy’s new animal cruelty law.

A Scene of Horror in Syracuse
In mid-April 2025, the town of Syracuse in Sicily became the stage for one of the most horrific cases of animal cruelty in recent memory. Timida, a 14-year-old dog, was deliberately tied to train tracks just moments before a train came through. She died instantly.
The act shocked the nation. Italian newspapers like Il Corriere della Sera reported that the dog had been abandoned with no chance of escape. Her body was discovered by locals, shattered on the rails. Animal protection organizations Leal and Balzoo called it a “vile crime” and vowed to uncover the truth.
A Shocking Confession and Dark Motive
The case saw a major breakthrough when a man—described as a bricklayer—confessed to being involved. According to Leal and Balzoo, he claimed he was “asked to do it.” The man pointed to a local attorney as the mastermind behind the act.
The motive? Allegedly, the attorney wanted to eliminate a group of stray dogs and cats living in what was described as an informal animal shelter. On the day Timida was killed, April 15, dog houses were reportedly thrown into the sea. One dog escaped, but Timida wasn’t so lucky.
The attorney is accused of hiring two men to “take care of” the animals. These two individuals are believed to have tied Timida to the tracks and left her to die. Their names haven’t yet been released, but their identities are said to be known to authorities. Posters with their faces have been seen at the scene of the killing.
Grief, Outrage, and a Push for Justice
The emotional toll of the event has rippled through the community. “Discovering Timida, shattered on the tracks, was a pain beyond words,” said Francesca Grasso, a representative of Balzoo. “Those responsible must face exemplary punishment. Timida will not be forgotten.”
The case has become a rallying point for animal rights advocates across Italy, who say it highlights the need for tougher legal protections for animals.
A New Law With Real Consequences
Fortunately, Italy’s laws may now be strong enough to handle such a case. On July 1, the Brambilla Law came into force. It significantly toughens penalties for those convicted of animal abuse. In the most serious cases—like Timida’s—offenders can now face up to four years in prison and €60,000 in fines.
Animal organizations are now urging prosecutors to apply the full weight of this new legislation to the people responsible for Timida’s death.
