The Heartwarming Story of a Stray Dog Adopted After Surviving Several Nights in a Texas Well
A stray dog spent several days trapped in a 3.5-meter-deep well under a house in Longview, Texas, before being rescued in mid-February. The homeowner first realized something was wrong when they heard barking and whimpering coming from beneath the house.
Concerned, they contacted local animal control services. When an officer arrived and crawled under the house, they made a surprising discovery—an abandoned dog, stuck underground for days. The rescue operation was reported by several local media outlets, including CBS News.

A Challenging Rescue Mission
The rescue effort was anything but simple. Firefighters and animal control officers worked together for three hours, using specialized tools and equipment to safely retrieve the dog.
"He was so happy to see me," one of the rescuers told The Washington Post. "I’ve done this many times over the years, but this situation was truly unique."
Despite the difficult conditions, the team persevered. "It was an incredible feeling to finally get him out," the rescuer added.
No Owner, but a New Beginning
Once freed, the black-and-white dog was taken to a veterinarian, who confirmed that the animal had likely been underground for several days. Since the dog had no tags or microchip, authorities were unable to identify an owner.
The dog was then transferred to the Longview adoption center, where he quickly became a favorite among staff. "He is incredibly sweet and gentle—he just wants love and affection," said Jenna George, the shelter’s director.
On February 27, an adoption listing was posted, and it didn’t take long for the right person to call. A woman from Dallas saw the dog’s photo and immediately fell in love. "I saw the picture, and I just knew. I would love the opportunity to adopt him," she told the shelter staff.
Now, after surviving such a harrowing ordeal, this resilient pup is finally getting the loving home he deserves.
