Horror on the Road: Man Drags Dead Dog Behind Car—Internet Responds with Fire and Fury
In Belgium, a driver was filmed dragging his lifeless German Shepherd behind his car. The shocking footage went viral, and what followed was a storm of online outrage, a manhunt by internet users, and finally, a fire that destroyed the man’s home.

A Scene of Unthinkable Cruelty
On Friday, July 4th, a Belgian motorist witnessed what she described as a “scene of unbearable cruelty” on a road in the town of Oupeye. A man was driving with his German Shepherd’s lifeless body being dragged behind his vehicle—its leash caught in the car door. The speedometer allegedly reached up to 80 km/h.
Victoria, the woman who witnessed the scene, honked her horn repeatedly in desperation, trying to stop the driver. When he finally pulled over, she confronted him.
“Do you think this is normal?” she asked.
According to Victoria’s Facebook post, the man coldly replied: “I do what I want—it’s my dog.” He then detached the dog and threw the body into the trunk like garbage, she said.
Viral Outrage and a Hunt for Justice
Victoria’s post quickly spread across social media, igniting a firestorm of public outrage. Although the car’s license plate had been blurred, internet users quickly identified the man, located his workplace, and even found his home address.
A petition titled “Justice for the Dragged Dog” amassed over 50,000 signatures in just days. But what began as digital activism took a far darker turn.
Flames of Revenge: The House Set on Fire
In the early hours of Monday morning, tragedy escalated. According to Serge Fillot, the mayor of Oupeye, someone set the man’s house on fire while he was still inside. Fortunately, he managed to escape unharmed.
“I got a call around 3:00 or 3:30 a.m. They told me the owner’s house was in flames,” the mayor told RTL Info. “We’ve gone from the cruel death of a dog—something the man must answer for—to a manhunt. If someone set fire to an occupied house, it’s attempted murder.”
Authorities now fear further acts of vigilante violence, and security measures have been put in place at the man’s home and workplace.

Investigation and a Questioned Defense
The man turned himself in to police on Saturday morning at the Hermalle police station. He claims his dog “jumped out of the window” and got caught in the leash without his knowledge. Investigators have yet to verify this version of events, but many remain skeptical given the nature of the incident.
Mayor Fillot called for calm: “Justice will take its course. But no matter how shocking the video was, this cannot justify arson or violence.”
