"He's Getting Better": Vasco, the Puppy Brutally Beaten by Owner, Miraculously Survives
A six-month-old Belgian Malinois puppy named Vasco has miraculously survived after enduring horrific abuse from his owner in Saint-Nicolas-les-Cîteaux, Côte-d'Or, France. The young dog's incredible resilience has captured the hearts of animal lovers.

Horrific Act of Violence
Around ten days ago, Vasco suffered extreme cruelty at the hands of his 34-year-old owner. The violent assault included being shot three times with a firearm, stabbed repeatedly in the throat with a pitchfork, and struck multiple times in the head with a hammer. Ultimately, Vasco was buried alive—all witnessed by the perpetrator's eight-and-a-half-year-old daughter.
Following the traumatic incident, Vasco was rushed to a veterinary clinic in Chenôve, where veterinarians initially feared he would not survive due to the severity of his injuries.
A Remarkable Recovery
On Monday, March 24, the SPA des Cailloux animal shelter provided reassuring updates on Vasco's condition. According to Isabelle Pierrey, president of the SPA, "He is alive and on the road to recovery. He is out of danger, and we plan to bring him back to our shelter soon."
Vasco remains hospitalized at the veterinary clinic, where his exact condition is being carefully monitored. "He may need to stay a while longer," said Pierrey. "But he’s a young dog, so he has a greater chance of recovering."
Public Outrage and Support
The incident sparked widespread outrage and concern from animal lovers online, who expressed horror at the violence inflicted on the puppy and offered support to Vasco’s original breeder. Many continue to follow Vasco's progress closely, hoping for his full recovery.
Legal Consequences for the Owner
Vasco’s owner has been sentenced to 12 months in prison: six months suspended and the remaining six months to be served under electronic monitoring. Additionally, the owner has been banned for life from owning any pets and prohibited from possessing firearms for five years.
