"He Was My Son, My Baby": Paiko Shot Dead While Going Out to Relieve Himself in France
Paiko, a 4-year-old German Shorthaired Pointer, was tragically shot and killed in Hautecourt-lès-Broville (France) on January 24, 2025, while stepping outside to relieve himself. Devastated, his owner, Florian Theniere, has filed a complaint and is determined to find the person responsible for his dog's senseless death.

A Routine Walk Turns Into a Nightmare
The evening of the incident, Florian was having dinner at his in-laws' house. "When my mother-in-law returned home, she opened the door to let Paiko and the other three dogs outside," he recalled. "Paiko was known to everyone in the village. He would even open the door himself in the mornings to greet people."
However, moments after the dogs came back inside, Florian's sister-in-law noticed something was wrong with Paiko. At first, he thought the dog might be feeling sick, but upon closer inspection, he realized the severity of the situation.
"I rushed to him. First, I checked if he was choking or suffering from stomach torsion. Then, as I picked him up, he took my hand gently in his mouth without biting down. He waited until he was in my arms before letting go. He died right there."
Fatal Gunshot Wound Confirmed
Without hesitation, Florian raced to a veterinary clinic. It was only after laying Paiko on the examination table and stroking him that he noticed something was terribly wrong. "I saw blood on his shoulder, and when I spotted the hole, I knew immediately that someone had shot him with a .22 caliber," he explained.
An X-ray confirmed the worst: the bullet had pierced Paiko’s lungs before lodging in his abdomen.
Filing a Complaint and Seeking Justice
Returning to his in-laws' house, Florian found the police already on-site. His family feared the situation might escalate, knowing that he had suspicions about who was responsible. "I was ready to go to jail that night," he admitted.
The next day, he filed a formal complaint against an unknown assailant, sharing his suspicions with law enforcement.
"He Was My First Dog, My Everything"
Now, Florian awaits justice. "I want the person who did this to be found and held accountable," he said, his grief still raw.
"Paiko was my first dog. He followed me everywhere—at work, during my hobbies, even to restaurants. He was tiny when he came into my life, and I raised him. He slept with me. We were inseparable."
His pain is immense, but his determination to find the culprit and seek justice for Paiko remains unwavering.
