Eight Years Missing: A Cat Miraculously Reunites With His Owner
Thought to be lost forever, a cat missing for nearly a decade was found by chance in a business park in eastern France. His owner, once certain he was gone for good, welcomed him home with open arms—and plenty of purrs.

A Chance Encounter After Eight Long Years
On May 29, 2025, in the small French town of Ambérieu-en-Bugey (Ain), a volunteer with the local rescue group Les Chats sans Foyer managed to capture a stray cat she had been seeing for years around a business park. Assuming he was a feral male born on the streets, she was shocked to discover that he was both sterilized and microchipped.
A quick scan revealed something incredible: the cat had an owner—and had been missing for eight years.
From Playful Kitten to Street Survivor
The cat’s story began in 2015, when he was adopted at just three months old from a local SPA shelter by a 21-year-old university student living in Villeurbanne, near Lyon. “He was so lively and curious,” she recalls. “He became like a little dog—always close, always affectionate.”
In 2017, life circumstances forced her to temporarily leave him in the care of her parents. That’s when he escaped—and disappeared without a trace.
Presumed Dead, But Never Forgotten
As the years passed, hope faded. The owner had long assumed he had died. But when she received the call in late May, she could hardly believe it.
On May 30, she was reunited with her long-lost companion. Despite everything, he was in good health—and still remembered her. “He’s a real purring machine,” she said warmly. “I think maybe he came back because he wanted to finish his life where it started—with me.”
A Story of Love, Loss, and Homecoming
The reunion is a powerful reminder of the importance of microchipping pets and never giving up hope. While no one knows what this cat endured over those eight years on the streets, one thing is clear: he found his way back home.
Sometimes, the bond between a human and an animal transcends time, distance, and even disappearance.
