Dog of 6-Year-Old Girl Shot Dead in Front of Her Eyes

A tragic event unfolded in the village of Lantosque, located north of Nice, on Thursday, April 3rd. Around 5 p.m., a dog named White was shot dead by a firearm while on a walk with his 6-year-old owner near the local primary school and gendarmerie.

“White came back covered in blood”

According to the girl's mother, the child was watching over the dog briefly while she stepped outside with a stroller and her baby. During those few moments, the dog ran off. Shortly afterward, he returned, visibly injured and bleeding from the leg and stomach.

The family rushed him home and tried to clean his wounds, only to discover a bullet hole in his abdomen. Despite their efforts, White succumbed to his injuries. A veterinary examination is expected to confirm whether the wound was indeed caused by a bullet.

Criminal investigation underway

The Lantosque gendarmerie has opened an investigation following a formal complaint filed by the mother. While authorities have not yet provided further details, they are now tasked with determining whether the shot was intentional or accidental, and who is responsible for firing it.

Community outraged

Since the incident, animal welfare advocates and concerned citizens have been flooding social media with calls for justice. One such call was launched by internet user Delphine S., who wrote:

"A poor dog was shot with a firearm while out on a walk with his young owner."

Animal protection groups, including UPA 06, have joined in the mobilization to uncover the truth behind the killing and to demand accountability for what they describe as a cruel and unjustified act of violence.
