Chinese Influencer Muzzles Dog and Kills It During Livestreamed Bath

A well-known Chinese influencer has sparked outrage after a livestreamed video showed him violently restraining a dog during a bath, ultimately leading to the animal's death. The incident, which took place on Douyin, the Chinese version of TikTok, has horrified millions of viewers and ignited a wave of backlash.

Dog Dies on TikTok After Influencer Violently Restrains It During Bath

The Tragic Incident

On January 19, 2025, influencer Pan Hong, who has over 16 million followers, filmed himself giving a bath to Aite, an Alaskan Malamute he regularly cared for. The dog, visibly resistant to the water, was forcibly restrained using zip ties.

When the method failed to control Aite, Pan Hong struck the dog across the face. The animal collapsed immediately, and the livestream abruptly cut off. Hours later, the influencer announced that Aite had died, attributing the death to old age and pre-existing heart conditions.

Public Outcry and Influencer’s Apology

The video triggered an immediate backlash from animal lovers, activists, and the influencer's own followers. Facing overwhelming criticism, Pan Hong responded:

"This was my fault. To all of Aite’s fans and his original owner, I offer my sincerest apologies."

Despite the apology, many refused to accept his explanation, pointing to the clear evidence of violence in the video.

Celebrity Outrage and Calls for Justice

Taiwanese actress and animal rights advocate Joe Chen was among those who condemned the act. She labeled the incident as "murder" and expressed her heartbreak over the influencer’s apparent disregard for the dog's life.

"A life was lost just for the sake of boosting online traffic. The shock and anger have kept me awake all night," she posted on Chinese social media.

Animal protection organizations and the public are now calling for legal action against Pan Hong, urging stricter laws to prevent such cruel acts from being broadcast online.
