After Losing His Dog, Homeless Man in France Finds Hope Again With Missty: “She’s the Child I Never Had”
Alex, a well-known figure in the streets of Nancy, France, lost his beloved dog Caillon over a year ago. Heartbroken and alone, he has finally found joy again thanks to a new companion: a puppy named Missty.

A Year of Grief on the Streets
More than a year ago, Alex — a man living in precarious conditions on rue Saint-Georges in Nancy — experienced the devastating loss of Caillon, the dog he considered his own child. “He wasn’t just a pet,” Alex said. “He was my family.”
For months, the grief lingered. But recently, a new soul entered his life — a little beagle-schnauzer mix named Missty, and with her, a reason to smile again.
A Bond That’s Already Unbreakable
Missty is nearly 8 months old — full of energy, affection, and loyalty. “She’s very playful, but that’s normal, she’s still a baby,” Alex explains. “When I leave and come back, even just for a few minutes, she acts like I’ve been gone for 100 years.”
The two are now inseparable. Wherever Alex goes, Missty follows. Whether curled up beside him or leaping in excitement at his return, she is never far.
"She’s the Child I Never Had"
Despite his hardships and emotional lows, Alex says Missty is helping him hold on. “She feels it when I’m down. But her presence is what helps me keep going,” he shares.
He holds her close and whispers with a smile: “She’s the child I never had.”
