Fifteen years ago, Eric Hooyman from New York adopted Reeses, a stray pit bull abandoned by his previous owners. Despite initial hesitation from Eric’s mother, Reeses instantly stole her heart — and from that day on, he became a cherished member of the family.

Reeses thrived in his role as a family dog: playing outside, chasing Frisbees, and always keeping a watchful eye over the home. The Heartbreak of a Difficult Diagnosis

Around two years ago, Reeses began showing signs of weakness in his rear leg. At first, the family hoped it was a minor issue. Sadly, it turned out to be degenerative myelopathy, a progressive disease with no cure. When Reeses could no longer walk, Eric made the heart-wrenching decision to arrange for him to be peacefully put to sleep at home.
