A Cat Reunites With Its Owner After Nine Years Lost
In a heartwarming twist of fate, a cat declared dead after years of fruitless searching has been reunited with its owner in Finistère, France. Thanks to the dedication of a volunteer from the SPA (Société Protectrice des Animaux) and the cooperation of local veterinary clinics, Loulig, a gray and white cat, was returned to his rightful home on March 7, nine years after he first disappeared.

A Long and Complicated Journey
Loulig’s journey began under tragic circumstances. Initially owned by a man who passed away, the cat was entrusted to his son. However, after the son’s death, Loulig was taken in by his widow. When she had to leave temporarily, she placed the cat in the care of her mother. Unfortunately, it was during this period that Loulig escaped and vanished without a trace.
Despite extensive searches, Loulig remained missing, and his family eventually lost hope, assuming he had died.
Identified Thanks to His Tattoo
Nine years later, Loulig’s story took an unexpected turn. A family in Plonéour-Lanvern reported a stray cat frequently roaming around their home, appearing to be in distress. The SPA volunteer, Marie, responded to the call and, upon closer inspection, noticed that the cat had a tattooed identification mark.
Determined to track down Loulig’s owners, Marie contacted the veterinary clinic in Plonéour, which helped her trace the original clinic where he was tattooed. After extensive efforts, she managed to locate a valid phone number for a family member, ultimately leading to the emotional reunion.
A Moment of Disbelief
"The lady couldn’t believe her ears," Marie told France Bleu, describing the moment Loulig’s owner learned that her long-lost cat was still alive.
This extraordinary reunion serves as a testament to the importance of pet identification and the dedication of animal welfare volunteers. Loulig’s story is a rare but inspiring reminder that sometimes, even after years apart, lost pets can find their way home.
