But giving up was never an option. Determined to give Jessie one last chance, Paul and Lola decided to pursue an ambitious treatment—one typically reserved for humans. It wasn’t a miracle cure or a groundbreaking medical innovation, but rather a meticulous, expensive, and compassionate approach aimed at preserving Jessie’s quality of life and dignity for as long as possible.
Dr. Benander of New Era Veterinary Surgery in Jersey took on Jessie’s case with extreme care. Instead of amputating her leg, he surgically removed the tumor and opted for chemotherapy using Palladia—a drug usually reserved for less severe cases. The goal wasn’t a cure but simply to buy Jessie more time.
No one expected what happened next.
The treatment worked better than anyone could have imagined. Jessie responded with incredible resilience, moving with the same energy and enthusiasm as before. She never lost her love for life.
Between August and October, her blood tests came back perfect—a result that left Paul and Lola in tears of joy. "We never thought this would actually work. Honestly, we just wanted a little more time with her," Paul admitted to the Jersey Evening Post.
Now, veterinarians say Jessie won’t need further check-ups for at least six months—an unthinkable outcome just a few months ago. "Dr. Benander was extraordinary, and Jessie responded incredibly well to the treatment. It truly feels like a miracle," Lola shared, ready to cherish every single moment with their beloved dog.
