Photos of the champion who won the National Dog Show, shown on NBC on Thansgiving, have been making the round among dog lovers and Stars Wars fans alike after several people pointed out that he looked a lot like the series’ beloved Wookie, Chewbacca.
Newton, an adorable Brussels Griffon who beat out over 2000 other dogs and winners to become best in show, certainly does bear an uncanny resemblance to Han Solo’s hairy partner in crime.
A long time ago in a dog show far, far away…. Newton the Brussels Griffin wins Best in Show. http://ew.com/news/2017/11/23/2017-national-dog-show-winner/
Others said that he looked like an Ewok, another cute, furry alien species from the Star Wars. In any case, Newton is both adorable and the first Brussels Griffon to win Best in Show since 2001, when NBC changed the name of the show from The Kennel Club of Philadelphia Dog Show to The National Dog Show.

Newton beat out a Portuguese Water Dog, a Springer Spaniel, an Old English Sheepdog, a Whippet, a French Bulldog and an American Staffordshire Terrier. The last dog, named Louie, won the terrier class. As well as being a prize-winner, Louie is also a therapy dog who helps quash the bad stereotypes against his breed.
So awesome! The American Staffordshire Terrier, Louie, won the group (Terrier) today during the National Dog Show. He's also a therapy dog when not competing. Way to represent the bully blockheads, Louie!!!
