Starving Dog Was So Distrusting Of Humans That She Hid Her Puppies From Rescuers

At the start of April 2017, Cindy Droogmans, founder of the association A-Team Elite Rescue Dogs, which specializes in rescuing dogs from overcrowded shelters, received a message from a friend about a dog, named Aluscia, in an extremely precarious situation in San Antonio, Texas.

The gravity of the situation became clear when Droogmans discovered that it was not only the dog that was in danger but also her six tiny puppies.

Aluscia was absolutely emaciated when she was found as a stray on the streets, and hid her puppies in an oil pipe when rescuers approached, in an effort to keep them safe at all costs. Cindy explains:

When they caught her [the volunteers] … her whole body was shaking from fear. She was a scared mommy trying her hardest to protect her babies.

The little family was then sent to a shelter which sadly was already completely full and so their lives hung in the balance. According to Cindy, the organization in which they found themselves regularly chose to put stray dogs down.

Cindy was ready to do whatever it took to save them and so she organized their transfer from the North Star Animal Hospital, where the animals were held and cared for before their journey, to Long Island, where the kind lady could finally help them.

The five puppies named Angelique, Amy, Anton, Azi, Andie and Ajax were then put up for adoption, along with their mother. Cindy urges potential adopters not to forget brave Aluscia as unfortunately happens all too often in shelters.

Young puppies find homes much more easily than older dogs, even though they are already trained and make wonderful companions.
