Lost Cat Returns After Fifteen Years to Say Goodbye to His Owner
Cats often have their own mysterious ways, and the story of Noël, a cat lost for fifteen years, is no exception. Adopted in Tahiti and lost in 2010 in Pertuis (France), Noël made a miraculous return to his owner, who had since relocated to Trets. Tragically, the reunion ended with Noël’s passing, leaving his owner with mixed emotions of joy and grief.

The Journey of Noël
The touching tale spans from Tahiti to the south of France, including the communes of Pertuis and Trets. Noël, adopted by a family in Tahiti, disappeared shortly after their return to mainland France in 2010. Despite their exhaustive searches in Pertuis, Noël remained missing for years.
In 2020, the family relocated to Trets, east of Marseille, about 50 kilometers from Pertuis. Noël became a distant memory until January 18, 2025, when a local woman in Pertuis contacted the association Eclip (École des Chats Libres Pertuisiens) to report a lost cat near her home, just 100 meters from Noël’s former residence.
The Heartbreaking Reunion
Eclip issued a call for help on social media, which quickly reached Noël’s original owners. A volunteer from Eclip reunited the cat with his family. Upon being held in the arms of his owner, Noël began convulsing.
The family rushed him to a veterinarian, but Noël’s condition was dire, and the decision was made to humanely euthanize him. The association speculates that Noël likely found shelter with other people during his absence, but was ultimately abandoned due to the challenges of caring for an aging cat.
A Story of Love and Loss
Noël’s story highlights the deep emotional bonds between humans and their pets. While his return brought closure, it also underscored the responsibilities of pet ownership, particularly in providing lifelong care.
