"Dragged Behind a Car": Stark’s Shocking Story of Survival
Between Christmas and New Year’s, a horrifying act of animal cruelty unfolded in Mulhouse, France. A man decided to "exercise" his dog by attaching its leash to his car and driving at high speeds. "He drove through the streets, accelerating and braking suddenly. The dog eventually collapsed from exhaustion," recounted Yannick, an intervention agent for the SPA de Mulhouse Haute-Alsace, to L’Alsace.
The Belgian Malinois, named Stark, not only fell but also collided with a pole during the ordeal. Yannick added, "We don’t know if the driver realized immediately what was happening."

Stark’s Condition: A Fight for Survival
The 4-year-old dog was discovered days later when the SPA, accompanied by police, arrived at the owner’s residence. "The dog was lying on its side and barely lifted its head when we arrived. I had to fetch a stretcher," Yannick explained.
Stark’s injuries are severe. "He’s burned down to the flesh, and you can almost see the bone on his hind leg," said Mathieu Spenlé, head of the SPA shelter. About 40% of Stark’s body is covered in raw wounds. Despite the severity, Spenlé remains cautiously optimistic: "If there’s no infection, he might pull through."
Justice for Stark
The dog’s owner has been taken into custody and faces trial in June. Meanwhile, Stark continues to receive intensive care at the SPA shelter in Mulhouse. Once he recovers, the shelter plans to rehome him carefully.
"There will likely be many people wanting to adopt Stark," Spenlé noted. "But he won’t go to just anyone."
A Second Chance
Stark’s harrowing story has drawn attention to the importance of animal welfare and responsible pet ownership. With proper care, love, and a new start, Stark may soon find the forever home he deserves.
