Tonnerre, the Dog Who Escaped Euthanasia: “I Hope People Won’t Forget Him”

For weeks, Tonnerre’s fate seemed sealed. At just three years old, the Malinois was housed at the Moineville pound (Meurthe-et-Moselle) with no rescue center or shelter willing to take him in. Without a solution, euthanasia loomed in the near future.

The news spread quickly among animal lovers, sparking outrage and compassion. Many feared Tonnerre would meet the same tragic fate as Smoke, another dog euthanized earlier this year after being labeled “dangerous.”

The Determination of One Woman

Émilie, an employee at the pound, refused to give up. She searched relentlessly for a place that could welcome Tonnerre and provide the training and resocialization he needs. Eventually, she secured a spot in a specialized boarding facility.
