Extended Holding Period Offers Hope
To increase the chances of reunions, Pasadena Humane has extended the holding period for stray animals from the California standard of five days to 30 days. McManus emphasized the importance of this decision:
"We realized five days wasn't enough in the chaos following the fire. By extending it, we're giving families more time to locate their pets."

The Role of Microchipping
Microchipping has proven to be invaluable in reuniting pets with their owners. According to McManus, many pets were returned home without even needing to stop at the shelter.
Current Shelter Care
With around 400 animals currently under care, the shelter is working tirelessly to ensure their well-being.
- Dogs are getting regular outdoor breaks.
- Cats are being comforted to reduce stress.
McManus explained, "We are trying to make this as safe and homelike as possible for every animal here."

What Happens After 30 Days?
If pets remain unclaimed after 30 days, Pasadena Humane will begin the adoption process. Efforts to locate owners will continue, but McManus acknowledged the heartbreaking reality:
"At some point, we have to understand that these pets may not be reclaimed. We’ll work to find them loving new homes."
