Tania Cappelluti, one of the founders of Charlie's Angels Animal Rescue in Costa Rica, was out looking for a stray dog she had spotted on the streets a few days earlier. She wanted to bring this pup to safety.
But when she tried to find him on a Sunday in February, he was nowhere to be seen. Instead, she found something else…
As Cappelluti drove around looking for the stray, she came across a very different black dog at the side of the road in the middle of nowhere. Of course, she wasted no time in getting out of the car. She writes:
When I jumped out of the car to check on her she immediately fell to the ground and started crying.
The poor dog was clearly suffering, her body covered in fleas and ticks and severely dehydrated. But Cappelluti knew it was worth it: this dog was "the sweetest soul". They named her Gaia.
By this point, "She could hardly hold herself up", so they set to work helping Gaia get better with some much-needed food and water.
This was only the beginning of Gaia's recovery. Cappelluti managed to find her a temporary home at Finca Morpho community farm while she waited for someone to adopt her.
With a beautiful face like that, it didn't take long.
Gaia was welcomed into a forever home in Puerto Jimenez. And Cappelluti is very happy with the result:
She lives with a lovely lady from France in a beautiful cool house and already knows how to give high fives!
And all because Cappelluti was compassionate enough to stop her car for a lonely stray. It's something we could all learn from!
