Sunny skies and hot weather are finally back, so what could be better than a trip to the beach? Even your dog can come along, as long as you keep some important things in mind!

1. Make sure you pick the right beach!

Some beaches ban animals during the summer. It would be a shame if you couldn't get your time in the sun, especially when it's so simple to find out whether you can go or not. Check online lists to see whether your local beaches allow dogs, such as this one for the UK.

2. Keep an eye on the temperature

It's better to leave your dog at home if the temperature starts to soar. Unfortunately, a parasol isn't enough to protect your friend from the sun and you risk exposing your dog to heatstroke, which can be fatal to canines. Don't forget that dogs can get heatstroke, especially if they have short fur. For tips on how to protect your dog, click here.

3. Plan ahead

Remember to bring plenty of food and fresh water with you on your trip. Also think about bringing treats, toys and a towel to dry your dog if they fancy a dip in the sea! Consider getting a life jacket to lessen the risk of drowning.

4. Stay hydrated

Make sure your dog drinks as much water as possible and don't let them drink sea water, which can make them vomit or give them diarrhea if they drink too much of it.

5. Don't let them wander off

Even if the beach is dog friendly, you need to think of other people enjoying their holiday. Lots of people just want a calm day at the beach and didn't expect to have to share their towel with your friendly pooch. Keep an eye on your pet to make sure they don't get into any trouble or danger.

By following these tips, you can ensure that you and your dog can have the most fun possible on your trip to the beach this summer!
